Friday
some sketches
P & the book of Z's. An almost-ancient tome that grants a good night's sleep.
I was idly copying a panel from an amazing graphic novel called Daytripper.
It is about a guy whose job it is to write obituaries, and you take a trip through his life, experiencing the many points, the days at which his life takes a significant turn. The many possibilities, the many possible ways and situations in which he could have died at each turn in his life.
And though it's about death, it's just as much about life. It's written and illustrated by two brothers, Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon.
Thursday
copies
These 2 are copies of drawings/photos that I made today (we copied drawings/photos that the teacher gave us), first sketchbook thingy for Fig and Animals. I don't like copying thingies :( I mean, sure, I do learn things as I copy, but damn is it ever tedious.
I think my pathetic shading has been forced to improve a little :/ Maybe I should grit my teeth and copy more things. Doing this has also made me realise how long it's been since I've really drawn anything.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming sketch outings!

Hands, I love hands (I scanned the better page):

Miscellany from smaller sketchbooks mostly (rough rough stuff...):

Saturday
mmmmm
A friend commented that the people and characters I draw are always looking for something.
Maybe this time, this fellow's found what he's looking for.
(Drawn on the third day of orientation for the freshies 2011!)
P.S. I was playing tic tac toe with Pam. I think you can tell. Over in the top left corner is a little french :)
Tuesday
twins! wip
My favourite part of drawing fund lesson is when the live model comes in. I really really like figure drawing, it's so much fun! :) This one was a 45 min session. The picture here scanned in tilted, too lazy to fix it :P (So you know, she's sitting on the seat of a stool.)
That said there are a couple of awkward things about this picture I've yet to tweak/refine.
Hopefully when I draw in the guy next lesson, I won't end up ruining both drawings. I'm weaker at figure-drawing guys.
(Psst. WIP=WorkInProgress)
When it came around for the 2nd 45-minute drawing session, I couldn't draw the figure properly together on the same piece of paper as the above. Due to some bad foresight. But yes, I drew this instead after giving up.
I love brown paper. I got this one in huge huge sheets in rolls from some neighbourhood hardware/diy store. For cheep :D It's actually meant for wrapping, so it's smooth on one side and rough on the other.
Friday
robot & dog.
A simple little panel from a little christmas story storyboard assignment we did for school. We did bigger value studies based on two panels! For painting! Later! I did it in pencil and adjusted some stuff in photoshop.
I really like the feel of the painted over pencil, and the lighting. I like this panel oodles more than I like the other one unfortunately :/
Thursday
it's a girl!
About 30 minutes. Slow right. Hahaha.
Could use some improvement, definitely - some parts are wonky :P I modified the drawing some from the actual pose the model was doing, like adding a visible right arm, though the general gesture is there.

Twisty poses like this one are fun to draw. But I spent a really long time deciding how to get the arms right :/
Recently we started on shading figures in drawing fundamentals. Funny how it is that I can draw like this better than when we're asked to draw the underlying structure, i.e. musculature and bones. (In which case it comes out totally weird and the drawings lose the 3D illusion.)
Sunday
chers
This is going in the Year 1 year-end portfolio! They're grading portfolios at school as part of the final sem assessment. I'm relieved that's at least one piece of the ten I don't need to do from scratch just for the sake of the folio.
Doing just for the sake of the portfolio isn't something I agree with actually. It turns the art into a chore, stresses you out with deadlines (I haven't yet lived to cohabit peaceably with deadlines. I'm screwed, yes.) and can befuddle your motivations...
Bo bian ah! :( I don't do enough personal work.
But personal work is so fun! What is wrong with this picture here? *grumbles at self*
Tuesday
basically how last week has gone
I like the rain on the outside, but when it rains inside...
(Also, the cheapo 9.90 sandals I keep wearing around slip on practically anything when it rains.)
Ah well. [: It will be a better tomorrow.

Thursday
bamboo
An A3 drawing of somewhere in the Botanic Gardens I did for school. Happy with the bamboo, with other portions, not so much :)
Wednesday
more dragons
For a period of time last year I was in a dragon phase. These were the results.

A postcard-sized affair I did for a good friend of mine :P

Me, vandalising the back of a GP comprehension last year. I ended up having to scan the other side to go for consultation, and the explanation was awkward, heh.

Drawn beneath some biology notes. I remember it was about nerve impulse transmission.

I drew this using Autodesk Sketchpad Express, on the itouch. I think it counts as the first digital thingy I ever did :P

fox studies
These were done in March. I originally made them for a short story idea I had involving a girl and a fox (:
